CEDEFOP
The European Centre for the Development of Vocational Education and Training (Cedefop as the abbreviation for Centre Européen pour le Développement de la Formation Professionelle) was established in 1975 as an agency of the European Union dealing with all matters related to VET.
Cedefop makes available information and analyses about the European VET systems and about policies, research and practice in this area. By means of the offered information and its research and communication activities, Cedefop aims to support VET experts in Europe in order to further develop and improve VET in Europe. Originally based in Berlin, the central office moved to Thessaloniki in 1995.
The main tasks of Cedefop are:
- data collection and analysis;
- contributions to research development and coordination;
- dissemination of information;
- support of common approaches towards challenges in VET;
- providing a platform for discussion and exchange of opinions.
Among other things, Cedefop coordinates the Study Visit Programme – for more information go to: http://studyvisits.cedefop.europa.eu

The expert knowledge and reference network (short: ReferNet) was established by Cedefop in order to respond to the growing demand for information, which facilitates comparisons between developments and political approaches in the EU member states.
ReferNet Austria is a project of abf-austria (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Berufsbildungsforschung Austria).
The goal of ReferNet in Austria is „to produce transparency and synergy in VET research, the dissemination of information and research results, and consulting work for Cedefop."
